It wasn't too long ago that the Bugaboo Stamps DT had an in-house swap featuring ATC cards. It was either inspired by or the inspiration for our ATC challenge earlier this year, and this is one of the ATCs that I created for it, but never posted. . .Which was a bit of a boon for me because it made for a really easy-peasy-fast-and-sleazy project for Oldie but Goody Thursday on Bugaboo Stamps' challenge blog, Catch the Bug. . .;)

In much the same way as my last tutorial, today's tutorial was CASE'd (See my PSSS below.) from the card that a really great gal made at the Austin shoe box swap on 10/08/2011.

Inky Antics has a line of acrylic stamp sets that they created expressly for use with their Honeycomb Paper Pads. However, being both diabolically-minded and cheap, I thought that I might be able to create the same effect using a simple, symmetrical digital image as a template instead of a stamp. . .And that's how I ended up choosing the balloon on Bugaboo Stamps' Birthday Monster | Sign It. Well that and because Karen's card featured a balloon too (See my PSSS. below.). . ;)

Step 1: I really do wish that I could give you the steps that I took to get to this point, but it was all trial-and-error. I suppose that I could have used math to get the exact dimensions that I needed wasting less toner and card stock in the process (See my PSSS below.), but I didn't. Anyway, the goal was to print the image so that the balloon was centered on the page because I wanted the fold to go directly down the middle of it. Now, about the fold. . . I actually scored two lines about an 1/8th of an inch apart because honeycomb paper is thick, and I still wanted my card to fold neatly.

Step 2: I printed the same image a second time, and then I (or rather my hirsute husband, Lance) cut out the balloon and then folded it in half.

Step 3: Lance lightly traced the template (Remember to fold it in half first!) with a pencil onto the honeycomb paper, and then cut it out. As I was writing this tutorial I realized that I probably could have done this much more easily by simply die-cutting half of a circle. . .DOH!!!

Step 4: Then I spread the honeycomb paper out over the balloon adhering each side with a glue dot. When I closed the card, the honeycomb paper wedged neatly within the 1/8th-inch groove that I scored in Step 1.

Step 5: I decorated the outside simply to give the inside the card a little extra oomph.

Step 6: And then I opened it. . .Ta-da!!!

PS. Why a black balloon? Because I'd originally intended to use the cauldron on Bugaboo Stamps' Stella Witch | Instant Witch.

PSS. I'd hoped to have some more photos, but my temperamental hand model insisted, "Modeling's hard work. If you want me to continue you're going to either give me money, sex, or smack." The things (Oh the things!) that I do for my followers. . .;)

PSSS. I haven't figure out yet whether I'm terribly lazy or ridiculously unoriginal. . .Thoughts???

Before I even get started I have to give a shout-out to an incredibly clever and oh-so-cool fellow Austinite - Lisa Spangler. I had lunch with her (and Libby, Lydia, Karen, Jimmie Sue, and Lori) last Friday at La Madeleine and she was enough of a darling not to punch me when I said that I was going to shamelessly CASE a card that she made for one of the Austin shoebox swaps for my tutorial today. Thank you Lisa. . .;)

Step 1: Gather your supplies - printed image, acrylic block, and ink (I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Spun Sugar because that's what Lisa used, and the way I see it, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. . .;)

Step 2: Promise your husband favors (sexual or otherwise) in exhange for being your hand model, and then have him dab the acrylic block with the ink pad. Saturate to taste.

Step 3: Trim your husband's nasty, stringy cuticles, and then have him center the acrylic block over the images and press down firmly.

Step 4: Wave the image about, and then blow on it. Be careful not to spit. . .;)

Step 5: Ta-da!!!

I was standing in line at Starbucks (Where else?), when someone passed by with a phone or MP3 player turned up. The song was "Pictures of You" by The Cure.

Have you ever been going about the business of living when something (a sight, a sound, a smell) takes you completely out of where you are deep into a memory? The whole experience is so visceral that you feel like you're right there seeing, feeling, being in that moment?

And then the barista asks for your order, and it's suddenly over. You're confused, you're drained, and despite the fact that that the memory is a happy one, you still feel loss and sadness?

What any of that has to do with Bugaboo Stamps' new release is simply beyond me, but there it is. Hmm, perhpas it's why I chose to create a very black, (very eeeky-shrieky, spooky-kooky, vampy-trampy. . .;)) project with our new Skelekinz set rather that our new Skye's Bears collection. . .;)

But unfortunately, I now have to share eight interesting things about myself when I can't even think of one. . .EEK!

I met my husband Lance on a blind date, and we got married six months later.
And yes, we did it like porn stars on our first date. . .;)
I'm going to see Yoo-Rah, Jackie, Joy, and Sandye over the MLK, Jr. weekend in San Jose/San Francisco, and I'm jumping up-and-down exited! I can't wait! Open! Open! Open!
Speaking MLK, Jr. . .I know it's a cliche, but Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mother Teresa are undoubtedly my personal heroes.
So are my parents - I'm the BIGGEST Mama & Daddy's girl evah!

Jodie originally wanted to call her latest characters Ava & Edward, but I was like "No! You have to save the name Edward for the vampire/werewolf/Twilight set of images that you're going to draw!"

Now that I have your attention. . .;)

Let me introduce to you Bugaboo Stamps' latest characters - Ava & Deacon. Since we couldn't use the name Edward, I suggested Deacon instead - I have no idea what inspired that choice, but it seemed a suitably neo-vintage-y name akin to Edward.

Am I wrong? Probably - I'm extremely "challenged" when it comes to popular culture. . .;)

It was late and I was already in my pajamas when I remembered that I had to make this card. I finished it, but there wasn't any more sunlight left in my driveway for me to take a photograph. But a-ha, there was still a bit of sunlight left in my neighbor's driveway, and he wasn't home.

"Do I dare?" I ask myself, which was a really stupid question because of course I did. So, I sprinted across the yard, braless and barefoot no less, to take a photograph of my card. I'll give you three guesses who drove up as I was bent completely over. I shrieked, "Don't get out of your car!" and sprinted back the way I came. Needless to say, I could hear his laughter all the way back.

PS. Never let it be said that I won't risk complete and total humiliation for my art, such as it is. . .;)
